As more and more tourists return to Japan, more and more articles come out about popular landmarks getting too crowded, visitors behaving badly, and residents getting fed up with it all. The headlines have called it an “overtourism crisis.” But what exactly is overtourism? How is it affecting Japan? And how can we fulfill our desire to travel while respecting the people and places we visit?
